How to Style a Knit Polo with Jeans Without Looking Too Formal
Knit polos can look polished, but denim quickly brings them back into everyday territory. The combination works best when the jeans and polo share a similarly relaxed level of structure.
Choose clean denim proportions
Straight or relaxed jeans give textured polos enough visual weight. Very skinny denim can make a substantial knit top feel top-heavy, while extremely distressed jeans may compete with a patterned polo.
Let one piece carry the detail
If the polo uses stripes, jacquard or open-knit texture, choose simpler denim. With a solid polo, a washed jean or stronger footwear can add character without making the outfit busy.
- Try dark denim for a cleaner evening look.
- Use lighter denim for a relaxed daytime outfit.
- Keep the hem and rise proportionate.
- Repeat one colour through shoes or accessories if needed.
