How to Mix Stripes with Solid Colours

Stripes become much easier to style when the rest of the outfit is treated as support. Instead of adding another pattern, use solid colours to repeat, soften or contrast the tones already present in the striped piece.

Pull a colour from the stripe

If a polo uses navy and white, navy trousers or a white detail creates a clear connection. If the stripe includes burgundy, beige or olive, choose one quieter tone rather than trying to match every colour.
