How to Dry T-Shirts to Help Prevent Shrinking and Distortion

Drying can influence garment dimensions and shape, especially when heat or stretching is involved. Because different fabrics respond differently, always use the drying method shown on the care label.

Reshape without stretching

After washing, gently return seams, sleeves and the body to their natural alignment. Avoid pulling a wet garment aggressively because water weight can make fabric easier to distort.

Be careful with heat

If tumble drying is permitted, follow the recommended setting. When air drying is required, support the garment in a way that does not put excessive stress on the neckline or shoulders.

  • Read drying symbols on the label.
  • Remove garments promptly when appropriate.
  • Avoid hanging very heavy wet knits from narrow shoulders.
  • Store only after the garment is fully dry.
